Who is a Lablaban?

A lablaban is someone who talks and talks. Like my grandaughter Roxanne is a lablaban. Since she was little she was a lablaban. Talking and talking and talking. She swallowed a radio. But I love her.

A movie about Iranian Jews

There is a movie tomorrow night about the Iranian Jews, I'm going to go, I think. I'm not so interested, but I'll go. We didn't mix with them in Teheran. But i don't know, I'll go and see it and see what's happening. Sheila, this agent, she's a friend of Terry, she'll bring me back and Terry's going to drop me there. I told Terry I can drive, it's not too late, but the parking is bad.

Hag Purim

For Purim night I went to the Sha'ar at 7:30 for the service. They read the megilah, and after the megilah we went downstairs for the party. There was Israeli music and clapping hands, hora, and there was a band. And the rabbi and the chazan, the clergy, they were wearing masks, I couldn't even recognize them. And on the table there was hot hamentashen and tangerines, and they were serving hamburger and hot dogs, and there was buffets with all kinds of salads, and cole slaw, pickles, and so much, you wouldn't believe it. They were serving the hamburgers and it smelled so good, with all the trimming. Everybody was saying, it smells so good, we can't wait to eat it. because we don't eat that at home.

The next day, around eleven, eleven thirty, something like that, the doorman called me, he said, "Madame, vous avez un cadeau (you have a gift)." And I was surprised, I went downstairs, I didn't know who from. I read the card, green card, it says, "for you, and Terry, and Harvey," and "200 happy Purim." It was from my friends, Barbara and Sasoon, they are very nice. Why 200? I don't know, I have to ask her. Terry says because there is two months of Adar this year, it's a leap year. There was a nice basket for Purim, with some fruits, orange and apples, hammentachen, mandel bread, and chocolate cookies, and an Israeli bottle of water, they call it Naya, and chocolate cookies, and chocolate, a round one. And a bag of tea, and it was wrapped nicely with a ribbon on it. Isn't that nice? I thanked them for that.

Back in Baghdad they would do that, it was a traditions, my grandmother would make sweets and nice things, and put it on a platter, and then she'd send someone to take it around to their friends. This is the tradition.

David is a nice boy.

Carlie has a good friend in San Francisco, his name is David. David is a nice boy, he's nice to everyone, and he's humble. He's good to his parents and his friends. He's good to everyone.

Roxy is in Australia now

Roxy is in Australia, she's there for a year. She rented an apartment and she's going to school, I don't know. I hope she comes back and gets settled. I hope she meets some people, but I don't like her to stay in Australia, too far. It's another world. Vera misses her a lot.

Single people.

I don't know what the people are doing, single all around the world. Everybody is working and living on his own and not married, away from family, and making money. It didn't used to be like this.

The Academy Award

The Academy Award is coming up, they're talking about it. Juno, I don't know. Another one they're talking about, a lot of fighting in it. Old Man Dying or something. They say it's nice but I wouldn't want to see a movie like that, too much fighting and violence.

I don't care about the movies but I like to look at their dresses and the setting and their parties, oh it's a lot of money. I like that.

Britney and the paparazzi

Britney Spears, she's in trouble again and these paparazzi they follow her. She's in her car, and whenever it stops, she was caming back from the hospital and these paparqazzi photographers, as soon as the car stops they come. One from the front, two from the sides, eight of them all together. How do they do it? They watch her. They make money from her pictures. Is she really worth so much?

Keith Ledger

I don't know him very well, but died from overdrugs. These people they get too famous, they get too rich, they don't know what they want, what they are. It's a pity. They say he was a good actor, and young.

Thank you for reading

Thank you to everyone that reads this, it encourages me to write more. If you have time, i would like to hear from you also, what you do and what you like.

Florida for next year

I have seen a place while I was in Ft Lauderdale, I met an agent and I asked her can you show me some places? This lady, this agent, she showed me few one bedrooms for next season. It's a one bedroom with a big walk in cubbard, they put another bed in it, so it's like another bedroom. And they have a couch that folds out, so you can sleep there too. It's nice, maybe I'll get it for next year. Who knows until next December though?

Good times in Florida

I miss Florida and my friends and my sister and my brother there. I had a good time with them really. I miss being there in the evening. long days and you sit and you watch the ocean, and the air is so nice.

There was this hotel next to us and we sat there. they would have a barbecue. Every day, and one night they had this big animal they were roasting and the chef was slicing it and was saying, "you want a taste, you want a taste?" I said to Doreen, "look at this!" I asked the chef "what is this?" He said, "it's a pig." They had a pig roast. And Steve was there and he said, "oh you don't know this? many times i have had this pig roast." He said it's delicious. But i didn't want it.

Back in Montreal

So now I'm in Montreal.

Stacy came to visit me from New York and Roxy came to visit before she goes to Australia. Such an exciting weekend we had. Stacy and Roxy and Brandon and his baby, and Harvey was here for dinner too. It was exciting, this weekend, we made sambusak! Sambusak with chick peas. For Lisa, Roxy took them to her in Chicago. Sambusak is like Indian samosa. Lisa called me and she said Jon liked the sambusak very much.

Tomorrow I go back to Montreal

Tomorrow I go back to Montreal. I'm happy to go back, but I wish I could have stayed longer. I'm relaxed, I'm happy here, it's so relaxing. I call Doreen and she calls me maybe 3-4 times a day. We call each other, and we walk together every day. Anyway, I'll write from Montreal next time.

Politic

When Steven was here, we were talking about politics and I asked him, "who are you going to vote for?" He said probably Obama. I liked him, but what do I know about American politics? I find Hillary Hilton is nice too. She's patriotic. Who is going to win? There is McCain, for the Republican, also. I don't know, I am not American and I don't care. What difference does it make to me?

Steven and Vivian were here

Steven and Vivian were here, they came to visit Doreen and she invited me for dinner. Me and Haim. And we're talking, I don't know how it happened, Vivian said, "you know, Haninah has a blog and I read it," and Steven said, "I'm going to read it, I'm going to read it when I get back to New York." You know, he's very sociable, very friendly, he likes me so much. He drinks whiskey on the rock and he brought some for Haim. He asked me if I wanted and I said no. He said, "you don't drink anything?" Then he said, "you want hashish?" I said, "no, coke," and he said, "oh! I thought you meant Coca-cola but you mean cocaine!" And we were all laughing. Vivian is still very cute, she's pretty.

Ezy's birthday.

Tomorrow is Ezy's birthday. Maybe he'll call me today, he usually calls me on Sunday. I'll wish him then.

Vivi and Steve are coming

Doreen's daughter Vivi is coming with her husband Steve, they're staying with Doreen for three, four days. Doreen has a one bedroom like me, with a couch. They'll stay there and then they're going to to Hallandale, they have friends there. So I'm going to see them. Doreen is excited that Vivi is coming, she's preparing.

My friend came to visit from Montreal

Today you don't know we had 70s and 80s, the past few days it's been cold and windy, very windy. But today people were swimming in the ocean.

I had a friend from Montreal, from the Y, she has a house in West Palm Beach, and she came to visit me and she put on her bathing suit and went in the ocean for half an hour. She said, "oh, that's so nice, I really appreciate it, you don't know how much I like this." She came with her husband with the car. They drove down from Montreal, then her husband is flying back up and leaving her the car, then he comes back down and picks her up.

We took the bus to Sawgrass

I went with my sister Doreen, there is a place, Sawgrass, about an hour and a half we went by bus. We spent the whole day there and we ate there. They have a food court, they gave us samples. We met some Iraqi friends there, and we sat down we had food together there. Then we went shopping, a lot of shops. Like Gap, like Starbuck. And suits, ooohh, so many, so many. You walk about an hour you don't see it all. They have from the factory there. These developers, they opened this area and they put in this shopping center.
